Located on the lower level of a 12 story hotel near the AC convention center, Tun is named after the colonial tavern where the first Marines were recruited. Outside there is a patio area with blue umbrellas, and there is a free validated parking lot across the street. The history of Philadelphia's original Tun Tavern is impressive, and I was really hoping this reincarnation would have an authentic feel. Unfortunately not so, the Atlantic City Tun Tavern is a fully modern bar with slightly worse than average beers. (I would be remiss if I didn't suggest Philly's City Tavern as a good contrast for anyone interested in authentic colonial style food and beer.) The Tun tries too hard to be everything to everyone, and fails to impress this beer enthusiast. Now to be fair, this is the only brewery in AC so if you happen to be in town, give it a try and decide for yourself. The 5-beer sampler is small, and the hoppier ales were decent. (It's usually a bad sign when a brewpub has their own beers on tap next to Bud & Bud Light.) Their 30-chair horseshoe-shaped bar dominates half the restaurant and the rest is dining tables. Above the bar is a glass enclosed room with four small stainless steel fermenters. Behind the bar is their glass enclosed brewhouse with stainless steel brewing vessels. The restaurant has a very patriotic theme, with prevalent Marine Corps decor. The service is adequate. The food menu include appetizers, sandwiches, steaks and entrees, and while some items are reasonably priced, most are over-priced. Overall, I was not impressed.

Tun Tavern has a very cool interior where the bright/servering tanks are located right above the bar and the beer is brewed on the second level. The beer is decent, usually 3-4 "safe" beers and 1 or 2 crazy (I had a grog spiced with pine needles for the first time last visit.) They say they have tours, but I've yet to visit when a tour was available.

The food is okay at best. Very standard pub-type fair, nothing special at all.

Located right next to the convention center and if you're staying in the hotel there, it's very easy to visit. It's also a stop (I THINK) on the very cheap jitney.

Service is staffed by cute girls that aren't the best servers. My biggest complaint of the place.

While not my favorite brewpub, it's a nice place to hang out, after getting busted at the casinos!
