Update: In 2014 the Vintage 50 brewpub reopened as a German themed lounge called the Beer Joint, but went bankrupt in early 2015.

Vintage 50 was the founding member of the Vintage Restaurant Group, which now also includes The V Virginia's Eatery and Brew House. Vintage 50 is one unit of a three-story brick office building with dedicated parking in front. Their have a patio out front with small square tables. Enter and their small brewhouse with four stainless steel fermenters is on the right. Straight ahead are their copper brewing vessels. To the right is the bar area, and to the left is the spacious dining room with a second walk up bar. The angled wooden main bar has 12-chairs and a few overhead televisions. They feature 8 house brews on tap, which are very well made, above average. Their food menu features a variety of cuisine styles including seafood, steaks, salads and upscale sandwiches. The service is amicable and speedy. Nice.

Vintage 50 has some pretty decent brews, however, there is a definite lack of a pub feeling. Sometimes it almost feels like they're trying to make up for brewing beer there. The menu doesn't really have many items that I'd consider to be bar fare. (Seared Ahi Tuna "Lollipops", etc...the closest thing I can find is the pretzels with beer mustard) It's okay, but we just don't go there much any more as a result and a couple incidents with the owner.

Bill Madden is one of the finest brewers in the Baltimore/DC area, and a visit to Vintage 50 will show you why I think so. Bill's Pale Ales are legendary in the area, having established a sound reputation when he was the brewer at Capitol City Brewing Company some years ago. He's still on his toes brewing great beer out in Leesburg and a very pleasant brewery/restaurant where you'll also find first rate service and very tasty fare. Comfortable outdoor seating is available when the weather allows. It's worth the trip.

Located in historic Leesburg, basically the biggest city in NW NoVA before you start heading into Maryland or West Virginia. The location isn't obvious, but as soon as you turn off route 7 you can see the sign for it.

The restaurant is divided into a restaurant and a lounge with a bar and some TVs. The restaurant is a little nicer with better food, and the bar is a little more laid back. You can pull up a stool at the bar and watch some TV.

There is usually something that can cater to pretty much anyone. There is a burger for the casual dinner, paninis (a little fancier), up to shrimp salads. In the dining room they have very nice meals, including a swordfish dish with a quail egg. There is also a full bar in addition to the beer, so anyone can have a drink if they aren't into the beers they brew.

Now, on to the beers. They usually have six or seven beers on tap, including one on cask, which is usually hard to find. Their selection ranges from lighter beers up to the heavy stouts. They also have rotating seasonals, including Pumpkin Ale. They are all reasonably priced too. A 16oz pint of the cask serving (Oatmeal Stout) was about three dollars. They forgot to bill the second round, but they left it off the tab when I mentioned it. The great part is, the glasses aren't chilled. The beer is served at the proper temperature.

This is a great brewpub to seek out. It's in a small city, but it's a beautiful city. This is becoming my favorite place to go in NoVA. I highly recommend this establishment.
