I've been to the River House twice now, and have been very pleased both times. The staff is very friendly, the bar very inviting, food was great, and of course the most important point: the beer was extremely solid.

First night I was there, I was one of 2 people at the bar, and the head brewer (I hate that I can't remember names!) was serving that night. I got to pick his brain with all kinds of beer questions...and he didn't even act annoyed with me.

That night I tried four of them...a red ale (like human names, I have a hard time remembering beer names too...), a fruit-ale, a wheat beer and a coffee-vanilla stout. The red-ale was solid, not overly hoppy and had a nice crispness too it. The wheat beer was nice, so was the fruit-ale (some kind of berry?), but the coffee stout (I think he called it a Vanilla-Latte Stout) was great. Nitrogen pushed, it had great mouth feel and just a hint of chocolate and vanilla, very dry and drinkable, not sweet at all like the name implies.

And while they have great beer on tap, the place doesn't seem to revolve around the brewing capacity. It's more of a restaurant atmosphere, but like I said, the bar is very inviting.

The only food I've had there was a pizza (of which they have 50 different varieties!), only comes in one size (14" if I remember correct) and is half-price on Thursdays. I had one last time called "The Ocean". It was covered with seafood, very nice!

I highly recommend the place, and will definitely be back many times.
