Growlers is located in the historic century-old Belt Building. Entering the restaurant, a 15-chair bar is on the left, split level dining is ahead and on the right, and there is an upstairs patio. The brewing equipment is visible through the window behind the bar. Growlers features about 7 English-inspired house beers, plus a guest beer on tap. They offer a sampler flight, and I tried their Kingpin Kolsch, Alley Way Amber, Oatmeal Stout, Maple Wood Porter, and Barleywine, which were all just average or slightly better. The also had their 500th Batch beer, a Belgian-style Tripel, which was unspectacular. Lastly, their best house beer seems to be their Roof Razer IPA. Unfortunately they got my hamburger order wrong, so my overall experience at Growlers was less than impressive. Better luck next time.

In historic downtown area of Gaithersburg, the brewpub has a great location as a corner building. As one enters the brewpub, there's a certain warmth to the configuration of the place, too. Bar to the left with ample seating to the right and then more on a second level directly in front of you. Most noteworthy aspect of decor was the wealth of beer cans surrounding the wall space -- a truly impressive collection. The service was good, but the food was not much to holler about.

Unfortunately, I found the beer to be disappointing. The Kingpin Kolsch I had was only slightly satisfying -- should have had a lighter quality to it. The Brass Lantern I.P.A. also failed to impress -- the hops only slightly livened up the character of the beer, which otherwise seemed to be an extension of the Kolsch I'd had.
