My favorite place in Detroit to go for Michigan beer. The style of the building is full of character, as it used to be a Ticket Office of the Grand Trunk railroad. So you have these really cool 14 foot arced ceilings with exposed brick walls. Long & narrow, it has a very long bar. The food is solid, but nothing fancy.

But all of that is just backdrop. The beer selection is great. All kinds of Michigan beers on tap (seems like around 10 or so). Very relaxed, "Detroit" atmosphere. An ecelectic mix of folks, no posers, no yuppies, just down to earth people that like gathering around an interesting place to drink good beer.

It's also a good place I can go with my kids for an afternoon or early evening brew if I find myself downtown. Especially with the smoking ban that passed about a year ago, this works great.

The Grand Trunk Pub sits in a long narrow spot with vaulted ceilings (the style name escapes me) in the heart of Detroit. The bar stretches along the leftside, and tables line the right.

The beer selection was very good. They had multiple Bell's taps and many other Michigan made beers. (it was late, so I really don't remember the specifics)

Service at the booth was solid, and relatively quick. No complaints there.

I never understood anti-hipster ramblings until my visit here. This place was loaded with self-obsorbed twentysomethings who spend to much time searching for the right sweaters to match there cordouroy, or so it seemed to this middleaged, uncool guy. Foran's Grand Trunk Pub has all the makings of a great bar, but I still walked away disappointed.
