St. Stan's and Hero's are owned by different sides of the same family. One side runs the brewery and the other the restaurant.
Sure, it's a sports themed restaurant and can get loud during sporting events, but who in their right mind would go to a sports themed restaurant and not expect that?
The beer selection is pretty good, including St. Stan's products. The food ranges from quality bar food to steak dinners. The staff is friendly and beer knowledgeable.
The environment is family friendly. If you want a quiet, high brow discussion, maybe this isn't the place for you. But, if you are looking for a nice family friendly environment, or some great local and international musicians, stop by and try it out.

St. Stan's is NOT a brewpub!

They are a packaging micro that shares a building with an independent restaurant, Hero's Sports Lounge. They do serve some of St. Stan's beers. The fare offered by Hero's is quintessential sports bar... aka,, fried and heavy on meats. Their pies are pretty good!

Unless you really revel in loud crowds, I'd avoid the place when any major sporting event is on... the place is replete with screens! If you really want to see a place over-done with sports memorabilia, this one has to be the top!

My opinions are just that... I prefer places where conversation is facilitated, not suppressed by blaring sports programming, and clapping and screaming sports fans. That being said, the beer selection is pretty good for Modesto. But, hey if you like this sort of environment, I guess it is perfect!

When reviewing, please differentiate St. Stan's from Hero's.

Thanks!

Sports Heroes are now the primary emphasis at this location. In fact, it took me a while to see any evidence of a brewery on site. St Stan’s brewery is actually located right behind the bar but most of the windows are blacked out and the wall is a showcase for sports memorabilia. Access to the brewery is through the “martini bar” up front, but the door was locked when I visited. The main bar occupies a corner of the interior room with some additional tables and booths plus a stage/projection TV at one end. There is also a separate dining area which is brighter and a bit more family friendly. Nine taps were operating when I visited. Five were from St Stan’s lineup and the others were guest micros or BMC. The Napa IPA was refreshing on a hot day and St Stan’s Porter went well with my Alt Bier soup. The menu includes typical sports bar fare including a nice selection of sandwiches and pizza as well as some upscale entrees. We parked on the street but there is also a public parking garage right across the way.

Saint Stans AKA as Heroes is both a restaurant and a brewpub. It has a nice high (20 foot at least) ceiling in the bar area with some additional seating in the balcony. It also has a nice outdoor beer garden near the entrance. I would guess the bar seats about 50 people. I’m not overly fond of the stainless steel décor, but some folks might like it.

It seems to be very kid friendly.

They have a total of 10 taps. Nine were theirs and they had a guest tap. The bottle list is not overly impressive, but will do in a pinch.

The house beers run the gamut from so-so to very tasty. I’ve found their specials to be the better than the regulars.

The have darts, board games (battleship, clue, life, etc.) and the bar is equipped with WiFi. for those who can’t get away from their laptops. When it morphed into Heroes, they added a bunch of TVs, so it is a great place to watch a game.

The staff was friendly and seemed to have more than passable beer knowledge.

The food is pretty good. I like the calzones & the beer sausage cheese soup is very good.

I like Modesto, but it is not a real beer destination. If you find yourself there head to St. Stans as you wont have any better options.
