I stopped in here on a recent business trip to Washington. It's only about a 20 minute drive from downtown DC (traffic permitting) in the suburban area of Falls Church. There isn't much in the way of street parking, but there's a free parking garage just behind the brewery that worked well.

Inside the brewery there are a large number of tables. I opted for a corner spot at the bar. I ordered a sampler, and was largely underwhelmed - quite a disappointment after seeing the rave reviews on this site. I ended up sitting next to a couple very friendly locals who also raved about the beers. Overall, I thought they were very pedestrian. The IPAs were just hoppy with nothing else going on, the red was uninspiring, etc.

The atmosphere was really nice, though, and would make it worth visiting again. Service was fast, attentive, and friendly.

Mad Fox is hands down one of the best local brewpubs I've ever had the pleasure of visiting, anywhere. The only place that comes close is the Great Dane in Madison Wisconsin. Everything is made from scratch. Their pizzas are great. Their beers are fantastic. But what really does it for me is their cask ales. They've always got a few on hand, and if you're extra lucky when you visit, one of those will be their cask ESB. It's wonderful.

Mad Fox is very friendly for families with kids, couples, small and large groups of working professionals, etc. They also sometimes have beer pairing nights (like the annual baseball themed pairings). But note that it can get very loud and busy during "on" hours, making it take a while to find a seat in either the restaurant portion or the large bar area.

Mad Fox occupies a corner of "The Shops at Spectrum". This is an apartment building complex with several places to eat at street level. There are a few free 1 hour street parking spaces, and a nearby parking garage. The exterior is brick and concrete with black awnings, and a narrow patio for outdoor seating. Enter and the stainless brew house is prominently located directly behind the host station. To the left are dining tables and their barrel aging beer along the wall. To the right is the bar area and further down around the corner are more dining tables. The atmosphere is slightly upscale. The colors and woodwork and beer engines remind me of an English pub, but the atmosphere is more spacious and bright with high ceilings. Their aim is more restaurant than tavern. The food menu includes a great variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, pizza, and entrees, all well prepared with nice ingredients. At the lengthy 33 chair wooden bar are taps for about 10 house brews. Behind the bar are small refrigerator cases for their serving kegs and a bank of beer engine taps for their cask conditioned ales. Their golden beers are crisp, clean and balanced. Their pale ales are bold, hop-forward and engaging. I was most impressed at how well they have mastered both ends of craft beer spectrum. And their cask conditioned ales are some of the best I've tasted. They manage to add significant complexity with no off flavors, and the warmer temperature showcases the intricate aroma from their highly hopped ales. The service was a little rushed but good, and I was very pleased at the 4-beer sampler flights.

Wow, what a find. My husband I recently traveled to Maryland and stopped in Mad Fox for lunch on our way from the airport.

The food was great, the beers were all very good. We tried samples of Molotov Hoptail (Double IPA) Defender APA, Dingo IPA and Renegade Imperial Red IPA. All of them were delicious. We split the special pizza - eggplant and roasted garlic.

The bar itself is beautiful. They've put time and effort into making the atmosphere very comfortable.

This is somewhere I would go back to in a heartbeat.

By far the best brewpub in NOVA, and one of the best on the East Coast.
All of the beers are consistently fantastic, whether on draft or on cask. The Wee Heavy and the Kolsch are longtime award winners for the brewer. For IIPA fans, the Molotov Hoptail is also an incredible brew.
Food is up-scale pub grub, without being pretnetious. All of it is a bit unique, but universally delicious.
About a mile from the nearest Metro stop, the walk is pleasant, mostly on a hking/biking trail, then throuhg a pleasant neighborhood.
Staff is always very friendly, but I definitely recommend reservations, as everybody knows about this place and it is always packed.

Located right off one of the main roads of the Falls Church area. The speed limit is 25, so you don't have to worry about people speeding around you while you're driving slowly trying to look for the place. There is parking right next to the restaurant. The entrance is tucked into the back corner of the group of building, but there are signs pointing out the way.

The inside has a rather large bar, with maybe 20 stools. It also has several TVs set up, probably mostly playing sports. There is plenty of seating indoors and out. However some of the outdoor seating is right next to the street, so you may have to pause your conversation as a loud car or truck passes by.

The beer selection is rather large for a brewpub, with 8-10 beers on tap, ranging from very light to dark and strong. The food is decent, and it's all cooked from scratch.

Overall, it's a nice brewpub, with good beers, and good food. Definitely worth a visit.
