Roth Brewing is an off-white corrugated steel building with green doors and a wooden ramp to the entrance. There is adequate space for parking in this industrial park, which feels a little remote. Roth's quality had faltered quite a bit in 2012, the brewery recently changed ownership, and quality is improving. The new owners are friendly and clearly love their craft. The facility is undergoing a transformation, and I hope to return in a few months to see how they've reinvented themselves. Inside, they have a small 4-chair corner bar, and a few picnic tables. There is no food service, but for entertainment there is one television and good background music. Despite that, this place seems subdued and there were only a few patrons. When I visited early 2013, they offered 3 beers for sale, and were happy to share samples. My favorite was their lush Dark Construct Sweet Stout (7.3% abv). They do not bottle their beers at this time, but do fill kegs and growlers. Roth may be small and have a rocky history, but I think they have potential.

Roth Brewing is a self proclaimed smallest brewery in NC at this time. This is proudly proclaimed by their staff who explain this is an advantage for them to have a very hands on, quality controlled product and leverage to craft their beers to perfection.
Their Raleigh Red beer is an Amber Ale just about as you would expect. Not as heavy on the palate and seems to be missing the heavy back-end. I'd call it less than mouth filling but enjoyable. Possibly, filtered just a tad too much.
The Foe Hammer is a Barley Wine and not a bad one at that. Quite mouth filling and again possibly filtered just a tad too much. This beer could easily be enjoyed by the six pack but you should be home and near your bed. It will knock you down with it's high ABV - that is not a bad trait. The floral notes in this beer were enjoyable and I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5.

Overall, the brewery / tap room is very small. Tap room can accommodate about 30 people max. There are some couches to relax on and the place seemed clean. I wish I could say the same for the bathroom. Someone needs to pay close attention to the bathroom as there was no soap and the toilet refused to flush properly. I don't want to find my brewer using a bathroom without soap.
Outside seating is sparse.

I'd recommend a visit to this brewery because I believe you will be pleasantly surprised. The staff is accommodating, personable and you'll feel at home very quickly. Be sure to say hello to the brewery mascot dog who is sometimes around to enjoy those enjoying a good session.

I'll be back, if not for anything else than descent beer and friendly staff.
