The Ship Inn pub is an 1860's building that was renovated in 1985 and began brewing in 1995, becoming the first brewpub in New Jersey since Prohibition. With its Victorian era design, tin ceiling, beams and brickwork, the Ship Inn offers an authentic English pub atmosphere, serving British and American fare with craft brewed beer. When I visited in May 2011, The Ship offered 5 brews (in the 4-6% abv range), and I thought the beers were rather plain, only just average. They were Best Bitter, ESB, Golden Wheat, Spring Mild Ale, and Killer Bee Pale (my favorite). I wouldn't go out of my way for these beers, but dining in the historic building was a nice experience.

Loved this little pub! I haven't seen as an authentic British pub since I was in...Britain! The place was all wood trim, dark like a cave and everything hanging on the walls reeked of the UK.

The beer was really something too. First place I've been with multiple hand-drawn beers (I think they had 3 different ones on tap). I had the bitter and the IPA, both tremendously good, both being distinctly in a British style: relying more on body and substance, less on the flashy stuff (no fruity saison's or extremely hopped out beers here). They both seemed to have a very handmade quality.

I had the shepherd's pie....amazing! They even had brown sauce! I washed that down with a stout, which seemed to be the perfect compliment.

Yes, it's kinda out of the way, but I will DEFINITELY be back here. Gotta get a ride this time, so I can try everything on tap!

This is a cool little Brewpub serving English style beers and English Pub Fare.

Food was very good the one time I was there and would go back for the food alone.

The beer was standard English style beer, and was quite good at that style. Had a Bitter (hand pump) as well as a Stout and they were both very good. They also have a nice selection of bottles mostly from England.

It was NJ's first Brew Pub and one I'd like to go back to.

Ship Inn is true to its name. It is an english style pub in an old house in small Milford NJ, a little village on the Delaware River.

Beers are brewed there using a Ringwood system, (yeast I believe was originally from a brewery in Maine.)

Best Bitter is their flagship beer, usually served on hand pump. Other beers include dark milds, wonderful irish (dry) stout, ESB, and winter warmer. They also have a good selection of bottled beers from around the world, though concentrated on UK beers. Also have a decent whisky selection as well. They serve a traditional imperial pint, and also serve half pints, something not often seen in US pubs.

Restaurant food is authentic English pub food including cornish pasties, toad in the hole, and fish and chips. Good comfort food.

Other nice thing about the pub is there is no tv.

Supposedly NJ's first brewpub. First impression when walking in was of an English pub. Kind of a nautical theme (duh, Ship's Inn). The barmaid had an English accent, hailing from the London area, I believe. Had the bitter & the stout, both of which were quite good. There were beers on tap I'd never seen before such as Old Motor Oil. The food was excellent. I had potato skins with Stilton cheese (lots of it) and bacon and a London broil sandwich that was perfectly cooked. When I first went in I wasn't sure about the place but I hated to leave. Would go back again for sure.
