The recent story behind this brewery and the distribution of its beer is filled with drama and alleged illegal activity, but I'll get to that in a moment. The brewery is located in one unit of a gray painted brick two-story building, a mix between an industrial park and a shopping center. Ascend a few wooden stairs to see through windows into the brewery. In the front are four barrels of beer, and there are more barrels aging in the back. I see pallets of malt and a banjo sitting on one long bench. Along the far right wall, 8 small copper brew kettles are visible, perfect for bold recipe small batch experiments. Around the corner a larger stainless steel brew kettle is visible. There is no sampling or tasting room, so there's really no point visiting at this time. I might recommend seeking their brews, but... Shenandoah Brewing closed in 2011, and supposedly reopened as Cabinet Artisanal Brewhouse, which supplied excellent craft beers to Farmer's Cabinet and Boilermaker gastropubs in Philadelphia. However, it seems the owners had a history of opening and bankrupting craft beer bars and indeed may not have attained properly licensing to brew and transport brew from VA to PA. As of this writing in late 2012, production has Shenandoah / Cabinet Artisanal brewery has been shuttered and the Boilermaker closed. I conclude the future of this brewhouse is quite doubtful.

I honestly simply love the place for the most part. The beer is for the most part, excellent. There are issues with the tap system, as in it needs replaced NOW and sometimes they push the beers too soon. Also, they make certain beers that are unreal and should be available all the time, but alas, this is not the case. The cost for some seems steep to brew your own beer there, $200+ for 5-6 cases, but I say go to Rick's or the big store and buy 6 cases of premium micro-beer and see what you spend. It's worth it and they allow you to do whatever you want to your beer recipe. Food selection is very lacking, microwaved everything. Chili is good and the meatballs in the meatball sub are excellent.

Very interesting little place that lets people brew their own batches of beer.

Food was microwaved. We had chili and meatball sub.

Person behind counter was not very friendly but one of the brewers was very friendly.

Donut stout is great. Everything else kind of ordinary. No prices and felt like they didn't know what was going on with their retail side of beer.

It seems like a great idea to brew your own beer but is expensive for the average person. 4-5 cases will run you up to $300.

Shenandoah Brewering Company is a small place, only open Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
They have a nice selection of beers some of which are great, some are OK. They make a great Porter and the Apricot beer has great flavor.
The brewpub is literally in the middle of the small brewery. They also have Brew on Site options, so you can brew your own beer. I haven't tried yet...but it's definitely on my list of things to do.
It's close to home for me, so it's my local brew pub.
The food choices are small, hot dogs, chili, snacks. But, the chili is great.
