The Tap and Mallet sets the bar (pun intended) for beer bars in Rochester. Their taps are constantly rotated with new and interesting beers, and they are often the only spot to try certain beers in the city, which is impressive because MacGregor's carries about four-five times the number of taps. In addition, the lines are always clean and the bartenders are friendly and knowledgeable, and can always recommend a great beer. T&M usually has one rotating cask ale.

The food, like the beer, is always delicious and fresh. T&M leans towards English pub-style food but there's something for everyone. Try the potato salad, it's great.

Parking is a pain, they have a small lot but you will almost always have to park on the street

T&M's real distinction to me, is of a place that not just serves beer, but embraces it. They have pig roasts, beer socials, brewery specials, and hard to find offerings. You can sit at any old bar and drink a beer -- you come to Tap and Mallet if you really *love* it.
