I've been to Rudy's a number of times while in the area visiting Starved Rock State Park. Selection has been slowly improving here, but quality is the main issue to be aware of. There is alot of cooler space devoted to beer, but not much of it is craft. The craft & import selection is mainly on the warm shelves, which can be a detriment to hoppy ales and lagers. Check for dates and dust, and don't be afraid to ask which beers recently arrived.

Selection is good, and they carry a few things you can't get in Chicago such as the Boulevard Smokestack series, Green Flash, and Ballast Point stuff. Also the GI Reserve line, Ft. Collins, Founders, Dark Horse, and plenty of others. They had a few oddball import mini-kegs in the coolers, and a handful of craft sampler packs. They really should start putting IPA's and lagers into the coolers to extend their shelf life...

Service is always friendly and helpful, but not always great for beer questions. If someone is on the floor, that's your best bet. It's nice to see an independent family-owned business thriving, especially one that has a craft beer focus. Overall the best selection in the area, check it out if you're heading to Starved Rock.
