It is a scenic drive through Texas' outcropped hills to visit Real Ale Brewing. This large brewery locate is located in a residential and light industrial area, and its huge two-story building is white corrugated steel with green awnings. In front are a couple of tall white grain silos, and small trees provide shade for outdoor picnic tables. To the left of the building is a spent grain discharge, and on the right are racks of pallet storage. Just past the outside corrugated steel wall is a farm of very tall glycol-jacketed stainless steel fermenters. Past that is a new cinderblock building constructed for further expansion. I am impressed at the size of the facility. Park in their dirt lot and enter their small tasting room through the blue door. On the right is a small walk up serving bar where you can purchase brewery merchandise and pints or samples of their beer. From the tasting room there is a large window which looks onto the spacious brewery floor. The tap room has 5 house brews on tap, but I have enjoyed a larger variety of Real Ale beers over the years. I was especially impressed by their Coffee Porter, Lost Gold IPA, and Sisyphus Barleywine (10.7% abv).

Great beers of all styles. Ales, lagers, wild beers, all great. Beers available at many local beer locations.
The Maibock and the ESB are awesome. Also try the Four Squared and the Scots Gone Wild.
Great atmosphere of true Texas fun. Come by on Fridays for tours and a relaxed open house environment. The staff is lots of fun, and enjoys sharing the great brews. Get your growler filled and grab a few bottles.
Real Ale ROCKS!

They are open on Fridays for those looking to come by, There is always an awesome selection of beers you can't normally find on the market, like their sour beers, or some of their experimentals. this last time I tried Benedictum (their newest mysterium verum, with cherries) and their silver medal winning brewers cut altbier.

the staff is always friendly, the brewers and cellermen do the TOURS!!!. and no one does the same tour as another, always informative.

they say there will be a new tasting room, but for now, the beer tastings are free until they implement the new laws. we'll see if it holds.

one of the best experiences ive had at a brewery.

Their Coffee Porter made with Katz coffee is outstanding. My favorite category of beer is Robust Porters and this reigns as one of my favorites. I also enjoy their Full Moon Rye & Devil's Backbone.

We have been to three of Real Ale's Anniversary parties and they do know how to throw a party! Parties have always been well organized and a lot of fun. Food and entertainment were excellent and beer variety superior. I really need to take off a Friday and go for their open house and mingle with brewing staff.

Great little brewery in the middle of the Texas hill country. They do free tastings on Friday's from 2-5 with a tour of the facilities at 4. They have 5 taps in their tasting room. (Firehouse 4, Brewhouse Brown, Rio Blanco Pale Ale, , Lost Gold IPA,and one of their seasonals. Devil's Backbone Trippel) The beers were great, my favorite was the Devil's Backbone. The staff was very freindly, and generous with the samples, they offer second round of sample. Brewerers were coming in and out of the tasting room and talking to us. We were not able to stay for the tour. The brewery has moved in the past couple of years so the map on this web site is not correct. The new location is at 231 san saba it's about a mile north of the old location on the east side of hwy 281. The road turns to dirt, but keep going, you will run into the brewery.
