Queen City Brewery is located in Staunton (pronounced Stanton), a charming little city with a beautiful public park and pond nearby. Ensconced in a scenic neighborhood, QCB is a small brick building with large open windows on the front. Park in their front lot, and you can easily look in and see their very small copper and steel brew kettles. They have 6 15-gallon brew kettles which are then transferred to plastic carboy fermenters. Over their 8 years, they have accumulated a menu of several dozen brew recipes from which you can choose. You can arrange an appointment to brew your own batch of beer with their assistance. You then agreed to purchase 2, 4, or 6 six cases of that beer. I think it would be a fun activity to brew a batch of beer here and pick it up a couple of weeks later. Brew-on-premises is an interesting concept that goes far beyond the traditional notion of simply touring a brewery. They have about a dozen beers on tap which they are happy to share samples. They also have a refrigerator case full of individual bottles of their beer, which you can purchase by the six-pack or growler. It's a friendly and open working brewery, which is standing room only for tastings. There are a few tables but no chairs, and there is no food service of course. I thought the quality of their beers was decent, and my favorites were their more flavorful ones - Barley Wine, Rabbit Stout, and Triple Belgian.
