I have not visited the Pioneer Haus, but I have heard of it. I think it is in the student union and it is a program that is exposing students to the brewing process. They help in brewing the beer and then it is available to drink in the union. There is an article that I read about it in our local paper and you can find more about it online at the following address. There area other places to find a good selection of beer in Platteville, but I do not know of any other establishment that brews their own beer.

My wife and I ventured an evening in Platteville to go bar hopping as we had babysitters for the night (thank god for grandparents) and we couldn't find this place. Turns out that after talking with a bartender at another pub in town, the Pioneer Haus is only open when school is in session. Apparently, the Pioneer Haus is located in the Student Hall and they have really random/strange operating hours even when they are open. Being that Platteville is a hot bed for College goers at the University of Wisconsin in Platteville, as we were told, the Pioneer Haus is able to keep their business rolling by doing business in the Student center literally inside the dorms. This location was really hard to find and we never actually found the Pioneer Haus. We used the directions off the beermapping link and it took us to a parking lot at the back of the student dorms on the campus of the UW at Platteville. My wife and I laughed as we sat in this parking lot realizing that our directions to this destination led us to an empty parking lot behind the dorms. I wasn't sure if I should post this review but I felt it was important to share our experience with you and for other to know the reality of this so-called location.
