Using The Beer Mapping Project on the go

Beer Mapping Mobile Functionality

Beer Mapping Mobile is simply a scaled down version of our regular location search and detail functionality here on the main site. We’ve set up the Mobile version of the site to be a very easy to remember url:
http://beermapping.com/m (the M is for mobile).

The Mobile version of the site is created with small device screens in mind. The maps are using Google’s static map API and the reviews are on separate pages from the maps to keep your download from becoming too slow. We have integrated weather and traffic from Yahoo (where available), and included Weather Underground forecasts as well. The goal is to enhance your mobile browsing experience, so you can find better beer!

Mobile Beer Maps Functionality

If you have a mobile device (cell phone or pda) that allows you to use the internet, you can probably download and install the google maps for mobile application. If you haven’t already installed this program, you can get it for free here:
http://google.com/gmm

If you have already done so, you can use some of the functions made available by The Beer Mapping Project to further enhance your mobile device to help you find beer. The url that you need to remember is very simple (much like the mobile lookup url). Commit the following url to memory:

http://beermapping.com/k

It’s not really a clickable url, because you need to add a bit more to it. You need to add the name of a city to the end of the url. So if you are planning to visit Boston, you will simply need to remember a url like this:
http://beermapping.com/k/boston

Once you have remembered this url naming convention, you can easily search for locations on the maps via your mobile device. Following are the simple instructions:

  1. Open up your Google Maps for Mobile Application
  2. Select the Search Option
  3. Type the URL for the city you wish to search for (use the naming convention above)
  4. Click Ok

You should now be presented with locations displaying on a map for the city you are looking for.
