I was recently in Rochester for work was looking for a good option close to my downtown hotel. The street the Abilene is on curves a bit so, don't give-up when you think you've reached the end of Liberty Pole Way.

First off this is not a western themed joint, it is actually named after a Dave Alvin (ex-Blasters) song and this bar really plays great American roots music. This adds to the pleasant atmosphere.

You will see the "L" shaped bar to your left as you enter. I would guess it seats about 15. There are tables and chairs near the pool table and there is a patio out back.

The Abilene is nicely decorated and is bright and cheery. The bartender was a real pro; he was way into beer and was happy to chat with the customers. It's always fun to have a bartender who enjoys his work and customers. Way to go Glenn!

They do not offer any tap beer (yet) but have a solid and well thought out bottle list. Good mix of styles and breweries. The prices are fantastic and range from $1.50 for a can of rolling rock to a maximum of $5 for some Omerange. Most beers are $4 to $4.50 per bottle. Note that they have some really cheap options including something called Pork Chop Slap Pale Ale.

No food other than a few bar snacks, so eat before you go or order in some food.

They have live music on multiple nights of the week. Most of the time there is no cover and it really serves to draw in the crowd. In the warm months they have the performers in the beer garden.

I really enjoyed my visit here. Good beer, friendly patrons, a good bartender, what's not to like??
