Located right on the University of Maine campus. Right next to Pat's Pizza which apparently is a very popular Maine institution.

Very small taproom, had about 8 taps. Seemed to be a very local place. Has some games available like darts. No TVs in the building.

Tried the following:

Gearhead - dark amber ale. Pretty tasty, although not my favorite style.

Demon Stout - very chocolately stout, very enjoyable.

Voodoo Porter - not my favorite porter. Might have a slight bit of sour to it.

Also, when I went it was called Black Bear Brewery, not just Bear Brewing.

A very cool "local" joint very close to the University of Maine campus. having said that, the beer selection is typical for what you would find in your average college-esque bar.

Now, the goods:

The Bear Brewpub is a three-level bar/pizza place/"dance" club.

The entry level is where you can grab a bite to eat. The menu is fairly extensive, ranging from starters like Coconut Shrimp, Broiled Scallops Prosciutto, Pan-Fried Crab Cakes to Roasted Red Pepper Seafood Pasta, Mediterranean Stuffed Portobello, and Mango Creek Chicken, but for me the staple of this place is the brick oven pizza pie. Made fresh in front of you with damn near any topping you can think of.

Prices for the grub is very reasonable. It's a college hang out, after all.

Upstairs is a dance-club where the local dude spins some tunes. From rock to the current hip-hop. The drinks are nice and stout. This is one place where you have the option to "take care of those who take care of you".

Also upstairs is a very nice outdoor seating section/patio/gallery. Very cool in the summer and fall. They also have a "mini-bar" outside so you don't need to stumble inside to grab an adult beverage.

Downstairs is a pool table and other items, but, I haven't spent much time there, as the very attractive, spunky and aesthetically pleasing college women are usually out on the patio.

What's nice about BBP is that everyone is very cool. If you aren't a total dweeb, you will almost certainly have a very nice time here. The guys aren't a-holes and the women very approachable and easy to chat with.

So, the BBP gets a rousing seal of approval from the good Dr.
