Clachan’s has five real ales available and offers free samples to help you choose, so we’ve given a good score for selection. Not only that, there were informative signs on the tap handles with details about the beers and a chalk board advertising a “Meet the Brewer” night with Tim Taylor’s (that we were sorry to miss), both of which are indications of a good interest in beer. On tap when we were there: something from Mordue (didn’t catch the specific beer name), Badger’s IPA, Fuller’s London Pride, Timothy Taylor Landlord, and Deuchar’s IPA.

The pub is a fairly large and open space with windows on two sides. A wooden bar with a tall dark wood bar back is in the middle and this divides the space into two (unequal) parts, the front being significantly larger. The back space has a cozier feel. Two black columns topped with capitals covered by gold-colored leaves form part of the bar back along with some opaque and etched glass panels. There is no seating at the bar itself but there are miscellaneous padded seats and tables about. The ceilings are tall with heavily embossed designs in dark brick-red. Lovely opaque embossed art nouveau glass lamps hang over the bar. A separate restaurant is upstairs.

On our visit, the music was rather loud.
