I visited this upstairs bar after 10pm on a recent Saturday night (October 09). It is fairly small and has a small bar on the left as you enter. The walls are covered with beermats and other similar breweriana. They had five taps including two brews from the new White Gypsy microbrewery in Templemore, Co. Tipperary. There were also two glass-fronted fridges beside the bar. The idea is that you can see what they have, select you bottle and pass it to the barman for opening and pouring. There was a cool music soundtrack being played, but this is a convivial place with the focus on great beer and conversation. Very atmospheric.

Above Cork's top off licence a small room has been converted into a delightfully bijou bar: one of those places that one suspects exists primarily for the management and their friends.

Beermats line the walls, but other than that the décor is minimal. Two large beer fridges stock a selection from the off licence, with anything from the ground floor available on request.

A limited selection of beers are available on draught, with usually a couple of Irish craft beers plus Bavaria as the house macrolager. Blackboards display a rolling programme of specials and discounts.

I visited on a Saturday evening in April 2009, having come from a packed Bierhaus (qv), and found it wonderfully quiet and welcoming. It could be the best-kept secret in a city with some excellent pubs, but I'm sure that won't last.
