Unions-Braeu closed some time ago. Other reviews are correct in that it seemed an afterthought from Lowenbrau. In another city it would have been a showpiece, but in Munich it was always an also-ran compared to the great beer halls.
If you're in the area, it's an easy walk to the Hofbrau Biergarden (not the tourist mecca, but the one the locals go to.) ---Bob & Ellie Tupper, authors, “Drinking In the Culture, Tuppers’ Guide to Exploring Great Beers in Europe.”

It shouldn't be surprising (to this Dublin resident, anyway) that in a city dominated by big, internationally-renowned breweries that microbrewing should be a bit of a half-hearted novelty, especially when the pub is owned by one of the big players. And so it is here. Unions-Bräu was bought over by Löwenbräu many years ago, and promptly closed down, only to re-open in the 1990s as a brewpub.

It's situated in a dark and atmospheric cellar and serves two beers -- Helles and Dunkel -- neither of which is up to much, especially when compared to the general beer standards in Munich.

The food is cheap and plentiful, with big platefuls of meat and potato salad being served up as soakage, though this is standard in bierkellern throughout the city.

Worth a visit if you're in the area, or a mad completeist brewpub addict, but otherwise stick with the bigger and better beerhalls.
