One of Amsterdam's legendary beer pubs, In De Wildeman is spread over two rooms. Prior to the July 2008 ban the larger one permitted smoking. Nowadays, smoke from outside tends to blow in through the open door of the smaller one.

The décor is classically mid-twentieth century: lots of dark green painted wood and antique breweriana from around the world.

The beer list is very extensive, incorporating many Belgian and Dutch specialties, plus a good selection of American beers and a few British odds and ends too. The real strength is the German selection, however, and a special German menu is available on request. Occasionally, German gravity casks appear behind the bar for the truly discerning.

Definitely one not to miss in Amsterdam, as the fella below says.

YES!!! Another one that TheBeerNut missed. Dude. If you can get back here... Do NOT miss "The Wild Man".

This was the first bar I hit when I first got to Amsterdam. It also was walking distance from my hotel. It became a sort of meeting place for friends on my tour.

Another very well stocked beer bar (brown cafe). I remember that they had taps but I don't remember how many. They also have many many bottles available. They had a smoking and a non smoking section as well.

Very comfortable with accommodating staff.

One humorous story if you don't mind. I was trashed the first night. Probably a combination of a 18 hour flight, lack of sleep, and WAY too many beers. Anyway. I digress.

Late the first night I found myself back at De Wildeman. Obviously inebriated, the bartenderess would no longer serve me any more of my coveted beverages. So one friend goes to the bar and returns with a beer for me.

A few minutes later the bartenderess sees that I am drinking and pulls my friend aside and chews him out for sneaking me a beer. I was asked to leave.

I went back the next day to appologise to the staff and thank the woman that tossed me. However she was not there. I asked them if they had a t-shirt that I could buy on which I would write a memorial of some type that I had been to wild for the Wildeman. Alas no t-shirt. So I gave them a beer from SoCal, and called it a wash.
