As of 2011, Iron Hill has 8 brewpubs in the DE-PA-NJ tri-state area. I am impressed this chain hasn't lost touch with its craft microbrewery roots, because the brewmasters each have autonomy to constantly invent bold new recipes. I almost always find a new brew when I go into any Iron Hill, and I have tasted almost 200 different Iron Hill beers over the past several years! Their selection has excellent variety, and they usually have 12+ well-crafted beers on tap. I highly recommend visiting any Iron Hill brewpub to try a sampler! The Newark, DE location in the heart of UD college town is the original brewpub in the chain. There is usually adequate pay parking nearby, or free parking behind the brewery.

Living in Newark, Dullaware has few benefits but Iron Hill Newark makes it a bit less depressing. I describe this brewpub as a restaurant that makes beer. Food is pricey for a bar but well done. The beers are solid and the regulars are steady if not spectacular. Extra points for some daring specials and seasonals which sometimes are hits and sometimes should be a drainpour. I am a fan of the Pig Iron Porter which is a beer more breweries should offer. Low in alcohol and high in flavor. Love they offer 20% discount on food and beer for AHA members and their mug club is top notch.

All fellow old men, the outside patio is prime UD coed viewing area on hot days.

Update 07/12 - got a chance to visit again. Enjoyed a White Clay IPA and Cask Conditioned Iron Pig Porter. Tap list now features both seasonals and belgians in addition to the standard lineup. Great food & brew...
This original Iron Hill Brewery location provides a very comfortable bar area with additional tall tables and booth seating next to the brewing room. Adjacent dining rooms provide for a more formal dining experience and there are several outside tables on the sidewalk for good weather days. There were 8 house brews on tap when I visited and I enjoyed the Pig Iron Porter as well as a taste of the hoppy Holiday Ale (IIPA). The menu offers a full array of lunch and dinner entrees as well as a special Sunday brunch. Parking is on the street or in nearby public lots and it is just a short walk from the University of Delaware.
