linkHopmonk creates a nice mix of old and new at the former Sebastopol Brewing location. The old stone buildings have been renovated to provide a casual restaurant and new music venue (the Abby) that contain new bars and seating areas as well as a central patio for outside dining. There are 3 house brews on tap and a selection of local and regional crafts plus some imports complete a list of about 18 taps. The house offerings are brewed by GB in San Jose. I enjoyed both the Hopmonk Dunkelweizen and Moonlighting Death and Taxes (Black Lager). DD liked the NA offerings and sampled her first Erdinger NA wheat. The menu includes both unusual and traditional small plates, sandwiches and entrees. There is a large parking lot out front but when we arrived about 4:30 pm on Saturday, it was nearly full and only bar seating was “available”. Turns out there were lots of empty tables inside (many of which were still empty at 6 pm). We didn’t mind eating at the bar but seems like they were needlessly turning people away.
