We found this little place about 3 years ago and have managed to make a drive by twice so far. We live in Louisiana and come to Charleston WV to visit family then go home by way of Heinzelmannchen Brewery in Sylva North Carolina. This should let you know how much we enjoy the beer and I'm not even a big drinker:).
I love all the brews but mostly the Black Forest Stout and the wife enjoys Hoppy Gnome.
We are headed there tomorrow to get a 5 gallon keg by request of the people at work.
It's a Brewery with Tastings, you can buy beer by the Growler "2Ltr Container", 5gal, and 15gal keg.

Worth the trip, Great People, Great Beer!!!!

What a name for a brewery!
I figure if a brewer can be bold enough to use such an unfamiliar name, the least I could do was taste the beer.
My sons and I were on a Road Trip to Tenn. from Fayetteville, NC and decided to stop at Sylva, NC for a taste.
The brewery is located under a Forest Green awning 'sprouting' from the rustic brick-work and framed by simple glass panes.
Open the double-doors and be prepared to inhale the pleasant aromas of malt, hops, etc.
To the left is the source of all this olfactory pleasure. To the right resides the business area and a memento wall that displays pictures of the brewer's birthplace (Germany), and more importantly, his several brewing medals.
But of course, the main interest is straight ahead.
Here reside the 8 taps . Most of the time the brewer, Dieter Kuhn ,will happily dispense his own product for you. Year-round ales are complemented by taps for fresh root beer and a birch beer. These beers are available for tasting for $1 each.
And what a variety! His brews cover the full spectrum , from pale golden to tawny honey to deep dark ebon.
I began with the Gopher Ale, then a Weise Gnome Hefeweizen, then on to the balanced sweetness of his Ancient Days Honey Blonde, and if you like brown ales, his Middleworld Brown is very tasty. If a dark brew is your favorite, then the Black Forest Stout is creamy, malty and 'chewy'....
I am partial to hops. So I tasted the Hoppy Gnome last. Exquisite! A veritable exhibition of finely-balanced hops and malt. Ummmm....
The brewery also has at least three 'Seasonals' on tap too.
Then he also has 'Specialty Ales'. These ales are bolder in flavor and higher in alcohol content.They are made in small batches and a new flavor is brewed every weekend. Two that caught my eye were 'Chocolate Covered Gnome' and 'Kilted Gnome Scottish Ale'.
The only way to improve this place would be to have food served there. Its strictly a full-time brewery.
However, several local restaurants dispense Mr. Kuhn's brews on tap.
Also, the 1st Friday of Feb. thru Dec. the brewery hosts Food and Beer Pairings (samples of ale joined by fine cuisine from local establishments.)
After sampling these delectable ales comes the difficult part; deciding which one to take home. Most people buy the growler and bring it back for re-filling ($11).
We departed with a growler of Hoppy Gnome to share around the campfire later that evening. On our way back home we stopped and re-re-filled our growler; Hoppy Gnome, natch...
Great beer; great people. Nuff' said....
