I never seem to be going through Morganton on a Friday evening, the only time this place is open. This is a tasting/tap room that is located in the brewery. There is a bar and a few tables spread out near the loading dock door, which was open on this warm first evening of spring.
There were 7 beers on tap that ranged from a cream ale to an 11% black DIPA. Service was prompt and friendly. Bela Fleck was playing in the background. It appeared that most everyone in the place was probably there every Friday night. Samples were given on request. All beers are $3. Seasonals and hi-grav are served in 10.5 oz. glasses.
I had the Blackwater Uber Pale Ale, a misnomer for this big, hoppy, black DIPA. This tasted like double Frostbite. The proprietor told me Don Richardson (formerly of Cottonwood) hadn't done anything with them in a while. The Firewater IPA was tasty as well.
A chalk board stated that live music on Saturdays would be starting in March. Another sign says last call is at 10:30.
I like the warehouse atmosphere and the service was as friendly as can be. Food is not available, but they have menus at the bar from all the restaurants that will deliver to the brewery.
I will definitely be hitting this place up whenever I'm passing through Morganton on a Friday evening. I'd call ahead for Saturday info.
Hours: Friday 5:00-??? (last call 10:30)
