After a stop at Craggie, I walked around the corner to Asheville Brewing for dinner and more beer. This downtown location is spacious. A long bar stretches to the left of the door, the turns towards the center of the room. Liquor and wine are served as well as their own beer.

The food menu featured pizza and calzones, but also had a pretty extensive list of sandwiches, salads and pastas. I ordered a calzone with sausage, mushrooms, and peppers, and it was HUGE. It was also quite tasty.

Asheville Brewing had about ten taps. I had their Nina Porter, Scout Stout and Shiva IPA. I preferred the Stout. The Shiva was okay, but I wanted a bigger hop kick than it delivered. They also run one beer through a randal every thursday, but I arrived too late to try the white ale through raspberries.

I received excellent service on my visit. I had a super bartender, that really made my stay worth while. I also met one of the brewers, Trey. He gave me a quick tour of the brewhouse, and gave me a little insight into the Asheville scene.

Asheville Brewing was my best stop on the first leg of my NC journey.

Asheville Brewing Company on Coxe is a great location to hit on a cool night and sit outside. Inside is a bit noisy and seems to have a controlled chaos sort of vibe. The beers have improved dramatically from the early days at Asheville Pizza, but on a recent visit they were out of as many as were on tap.

The food is ok, nothing to write home about and Asheville offers better food elsewhere so stop here to prime the pump instead of filling the belly.

A definite place to drop into while in Asheville.
