I've been to the Tap Room a lot since moving here a few years ago. It's by far my favorite hangout. I love the beers their brewery puts out - especially the Crawdad Red, the Christmas Ale, and I'm getting attached to the Summer Ale. It's lighter than I normally drink, but it has a much more complex flavor than I would have expected. Of course they have other beers on tap too, & with 20 taps everyone I've ever brought here has found something to like. I recently learned that they have an average of 20 wines available - who knew? The food is good too - not 5 star good, but the type you would expect at a pub, delicious and pairing well with beer and wine. They have an amazing selection of sides & munchies, and I think the sandwich, pizza, steak & fish selection are pretty impressive for a casual dining place. It's semi-divided into two parts - the smaller side with the bar, some tables and a few booths. The stage for live music on Thurs., Sat. and Sun. is on this side, so it can get a bit loud on those nights. But there is always the other side, with a lot more tables and booths. It's only partially separated from the bar, so you can still hear the music, but you can also here your friends. :)

The Taproom is located on picturesque Union Square in Hickory, this beer bar has plenty of deep dark wood and, um, taps. Taps on the walls and also ones where beer magically flows from. Non-smoking dining area to the right, smoking bar area to the left. Plenty of Olde Hickory brews on tap; most are fairly adequate with just the occasional "wow" beer. As far as proper glassware, their barleywine was served in a snifter, with others given in your regular pint glass. A beer destination that, at my visit, quite a few families and kids around. Jazz concerts on Sundays. They're quite reputable in the genre for these performances. A nifty little place when all is said and done.
