An absolute godsend on a business trip to Vancouver - you must go here if you need beer!
I'm always interested in visiting beer stores that reflect the local beer offerings that aren't found elsewhere.
At 'By The Bottle" I found not only that, but countless bottles of beers I've never tried. Many of which I've wanted to try for years!
The selection was nothing short of amazing and the service was very friendly and helpful. Check it out, you won't be sorry you did.
The proprieter told me after the new year (January 2010) they hope to have a tap system and beer bar up and running. Check them out then, (if not sooner - you know you wanna).

By the Bottle is an important part of the Portland-area ecosystem. There are a good number of quality national brews that are distributed in Washington but not Oregon: Port Brewing, Southern Tier, Shiner (OK, maybe Shiner doesn't excite you as much as it does me).
In addition to the national choices they also carry lots of beer from smaller or up-and-coming Washington breweries that can't yet afford Oregon distribution.
Beers are arranged by style. The owners are very friendly, and are really in it for the love of beer. If you happen to be in Vancouver, definitely stop in. Or make a special trip if there's something you need that either isn't available in Portland or has already sold out.

I found By the Bottle 7-8 months ago when I was looking for ideas on a corporate gift basket. I decided on a Beer Basket. Because my client was English I purchased several native English beers from this store as well as other world stouts, etc. Arlene was wonderful and quite knowledgeable as we are both dark beer lovers, she made it easy to trust in her judgment on the beer choices. I sent the basket with roughly 20 beers and it was incredibly well received. Both myself and another female coworker frequent her store and have recommended it to all of our family members. She will make every effort to get a beer that she doesn't have for her customers. This store is incredible for gifts, or just for someone that really enjoys great beers. Kudos to you Arlene and your wonderful store!

The place has about 400-500 bottles most are chilled. They have some interesting beers I could not find in my neck of the woods and they are local beers. It was quant and nice. The lady working was nice and had some knowledge. If I am looking for something special I might just have to make this a must stop when ever near Vancouver plus they are locateed next door to a brewpub. Buy the bottles then have a pint at Salmon Creek
