linkIt's places like the Jester's tasting room at the Waiheke Island brewery that earned New Zealand its nickname "Godzone": heaven on earth.
The entrance is off an inauspicious backroad and the brewery is in a non-descript whitewashed shed next to a rolling vineyard. But on a glorious summer's day, the tables out front, and the boules pit, are among the best places on earth to be.
The beer list is short, but mostly very good, and there's a full restaurant, though I didn't put it to the test.
It's a bit of a hike out of central Auckland, but on a sunny day with nothing else to do it's well worth it. Just be careful not to miss the boat back to Auckland.
