3 Freaks Brewery, located in a suburb of Denver (but isn't everything in Colorado a "suburb" of Denver?) has, I would imagine, an interesting back-story.

I'd love to tell you about it...about apparently they don't want anyone to know.

The web-page is down ("404 Error") and has been for more than a week. Been waiting to get some information to include in this review without luck...so, I'll press on without.

A small place, with a "patio" of sorts that overlooks a parking lot. Not my idea of a good "beer garden" but when your establishment is in a shopping strip mall, the change of a garden atmosphere is slim to none.

The bartender was extremely friendly; the price of a flight well within reason; 7 beers on tap from IPA (of course!) to Stout, Kolsch, Red & a Belgian Dubbel that left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, all of the beers fell into that category. They were all passable, just nothing that stood out...nothing, therefore, that would make me return although the red was different with a summery, spicy flavor.

So not sure what the "freaks" are trying to do but in Colorado where beer is king (like Oregon, Washington and California) with literally thousands of beers being offered in every variety, it becomes a challenge, to say the least, to carve out a certain niche for yourself.

Unless they start advertising free beer on Sundays after church (the Belgian monks did it with great success!), I wish them the best of luck.

3 Freaks is located in a short strip mall with dedicated parking. The building is one-story with an illuminated red sign over the entrance. In front is a small sidewalk patio area with a few tables enclosed in a black metal fence. The tasting room is not that large, with several tables and a straight 10-stool wooden bar. Behind the bar is their refrigerated cooler with 8 taphandles in front of a whiteboard listing their 5 brews on tap. These can be had by pint, sampler flight or growler fill. I visited in 2015, about a year after they opened. Their recipes are average and could use refinement, but the place has a nice relaxing charm. The brewing equipment is located behind the bar, and consists of 4 large stainless steel pot brewing vessels on the left and 4 short stainless steel fermenters on the right. There is a large bright red illuminated "BEERS" light hanging over the bar. The floor is concrete and the walls are solid red and black, decorated with a couple flags painted on wooden boards. Smooth background music is playing and the mood is relaxing. The staff is attentive, lively and humorous. They do not have a kitchen, but there are plenty of dining and shopping options nearby. It's not a great brewery, but they have a great spirit. With some refinement, I hope they do well.
