Wife Persimmon and I have been traveling & sampling beer for many years now.

It's true, we may not have as many "notches" on our belt as others, but this is a journey filled with adventure for us because we love road trips and we love beer.

Recently we retired (for the 2nd time) and decided to sell / give away everything that won't fit in the back of our Jeep and hit the road for a year, searching those back roads and getting lost...because that's where the adventure lies.

We also love -- no, let me re-state that -- LOVE -- finding a new brewery / brewpub that excites and surprises us with their product, their customer service, their location.

And 300 Suns in Longmont is our latest "find."

Now Longmont, Colorado if you don't know, is the home of Oskar Blues Brewery, makers of probably the best Scotch Ale on the market so any other brewery has a huge challenge to grab just a small portion of that market.

But if anyone can compete, even on a local scale, 300 Suns has a good shot.

11 beers on tap; everything from a Hard Root Beer to a 100 IBU IPA, there is something here for every palate but be warned; these are not your typical brews. Yes, the IPA will scorch your tongue, if that's your pleasure...but the hard root beer is smooth and creamy and not loaded with sugar or sarsaparilla; the imperial toffee brown reeks of salt and, for me, not enough toffee; the Red has a delightful nutty flavor; the Colorado Sunday SMASH is a perfect, cold summer drink while the ESB is perhaps the best I've ever tasted.

Dan, the bartender, poured 2 ounces instead of the regular 4 without questions once I explained that wife Persimmon and I share and then charged us accordingly...then stopped by the table to ask us how everything was and talk beer for a bit.

Oh...and let's not forget the incredible comfort food; grilled 3-cheese sandwiches.

72 degrees with a breeze; good food; amazing beer; WONderful talk with 2 ladies who said, as we walked away, "God! That would be great...to just get in the car and go"
