The drive to Ruhlman Brewery is beautifully scenic, through the wooded hills of Maryland, past small farms and country homes. It is a family owned and operated farm brewery. The address is written on a rusty old tractor-pulled plow, and the brewery name is advertised on a small white trailer at the entrance. Follow the narrow paved driveway down to the right and park in front of a wooden barn house on the left. Past the barn house is a hops garden, and the farm also boasts an 18-hole disc golf course. Walk back to the small bright red corrugated metal tasting room. On the right is a three-story white wooden house, and on the left hillside is their red corrugated steel brewhouse. The small tasting room is standing room only and has a small counter where they are happy to share samples of their beers. They have four house brews on tap, plus a couple more which they share from growlers. There is no food, and they just sell six-packs or growlers. The service was casual and friendly, not professional or upscale. Unfortunately, the quality of the beers was not as good as I had hoped. Their flagship milk stout was their best, but the pale and red ales tasted of off-flavored homebrews. I wouldn't go out of my way for these beers, but if you're interesting in a scenic country drive, perhaps to play disc golf, it's not a bad place to visit.
