Belching Beaver? A brewery?
Really?
Yep.
Sounds more like a.....well, NOT a brewery.
Why?
Don't know...but it's brand new (opened October 22, 2012) in an business park in Carlsbad less than a half mile from not 1 but 5 other brewpubs.
When wife Persimmon and I showed up on a Saturday afternoon, they were packed to the rafters with good-timers and most of them (like us) were enjoyed an 8-beer sampler.
From the Me Too Honey to the Pumpkin Spice, all served in not 4 but 6 ounce glasses, there was a something for every taste...a Double IPA, Saison (delicious!), Milk Stout...and judging the size of the crowd, word is spreading that the Beaver is THE place to be.
In the last few years, only the craft brewing industry as seen a growth in not only production but profit...true even in those "almost depression" years beginning in 2009. Tom, Beaver's owner, told me that he's already got his eye on a piece of property in downtown San Diego for expansion. And consider this as well; Belching Beaver lies within a half mile of not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4 but 5 other breweries all doing SRO business....including Fezziwig's which also opened the same week as the Beaver.
Which only proves that no matter how rotten the economy might become, we all will put a few bucks in the empty cookie jar and earmark it for a few good brews.
And you can't wrong with the Beaver.
When you leave, turn and give Tom & the gang a wave and hearty belch.
To paraphrase, not bad manners....just good beer.
