It is a bit of a drive through northern North Carolina's misty mountains to get to the small town of West Jefferson. Parking is free along the street. Boondocks opened in 2012 and recently expanded in 2014. Driving along the main street, you'll see that Boondocks now has two buildings. One is their new two story red brick event center, which is currently only open for private events. This will also offer space for future expansion of their brewery. Just a block further is their original restaurant and brewpub, which is a pale brick two story building with green awnings and trim. On the left end of the building is the roofed wooden patio area. Just inside is a small windowed room for the brewhouse. As of late 2014 they only have a small 1-bbl brewing system, with small rollable stainless steel fermenters. So usually the bar just has one house beer on tap, which rotates frequently, but they hope to expand to about a half dozen taps by mid-2015. When I visited their had Truth Serum Tripel and it was delicious. Further inside the building is the dining room with creaking wooden floor, several wooden tables, and a few booths. Near the front is their main two-sided 10-chair wooden bar. In the back is a second dining room with a second 10-chair wooden bar. The walls are dark red with several televisions for sports and chalkboards listing their beer on tap. Behind the bar is a row of about two dozen taps, and there are shelves with a tap handle collection. In addition to the single house beer, they have a good offering of about 25 regional and national crafts brews. It is a great place to find new bold beer. Their food menu consists of creative appetizers, salads, pizza, burgers, sandwiches, and a good variety of poultry, seafood and steak entrees. The service is cordial and proud of their establishment. In all, it's a very nice brewpub.
