It's not often that I have sampled a local brewery’s brew in a bottle and even on tap prior to visiting the brewery. So, I was really excited to visit their tasting room, which was a little out of the way, but once you find it you'll never forget it. They specialize in beers that have brettanomyces, or "Brett", which has a pleasant but particular flavor and aroma complementary to the Belgian style beers they serve up. Their wood aged farmhouse ale, Surette, was very smooth and tasty.

So you roll up on Crooked Stave and you first question is are we there, immediately followed by are they open. As packed as the place was they really need to consider Sunday hours. Once inside, you completely forget that you are in an industrial park close to Pecos and I70. I have no idea how they pull off such a warm and crunchy vibe in such a small venue but they do, in spades. Now on to the beer. Full disclosure, we are beer snobs, love the edgy stuff, specially those master Brewers that are bringing something unique to the market, guys like Hogshead come to mind. Crooked Stave falls into that nano specialty Brewer category. They only do sours. Sours are an aquired taste, which we have not yet aquired yet. You can taste the craftsmanship and the Brew master's passion but Holy Buckets sours are hard to get used to. As a beer junkie you have to and you have to go more than once but be prepared you may find that sours, try ss you might may not be your thing.
