The Alehouse Pub has a cave-like feeling with dim lighting and a dark wood bar and wainscoting. Overall, it feels rather generic, but it also gave us the impression that it’s a well-loved place. The space is fairly small and rectangular, with the bar on one long side. A full row of dark wood tall chairs lines the bar and matches the row of tall tables and chairs along the opposite wall. A fenced-in outdoor area in the back is furnished with common outdoor furniture.

On our visit, the bartender was quite knowledgeable about beer, but we got the sense that most of the customers were still coming up-to-speed about craft beer. There are large number of taps, but it’s predominantly slanted to lighter and sweeter beers (and some big company European imports), so we don’t give a perfect selection score. Redding is a tough place to find craft beer and the Alehouse Pub is close to I-5, so it’s worth considering if you’re in the area.

There is a small parking lot in the back.

I found this place a year ago while traveling S. on I-5. At that time they had 12 taps and a reasonable selection of bottles - in the zone of a dozen. At a recent visit I found they had expanded to 16 taps and added more bottles. The place is quiet, no-smoking inside, a patio with smoking. There is no food but a very nice selection of beers both on tap and in the bottle. The wait staff are knowledgeble and the pours are an honest pint. In my opinion, this is the best beer bar in town. Worth your while to stop in if you are there overnight traveling through.
