The Spring House Tap Room in downtown Lancaster is a fine place to try 7 creative craft beers. The pub has a 17-chair rectangular bar, table seating, a shuffleboard table, and large windows to Lancaster Market. Their menu consists of pub appetizers, hot sandwiches, and several styles of hot dogs. The food is decent, but prep is a little slow. Spring House beers are brewed down the road at their small brewery in Conestoga, and the Tap Room is the best place to try them fresh. The brewmaster is not afraid to experiment with specialty flavors and spices and the beers are generally full-bodied. "Seven Gates" Pale Ale is their tame and very drinkable flagship beer. Their excellent seasonals include "Beyond the Gates" double IPA, "Diabolical Dr. Wit" (with lavender and coriander), black IPA, fruit-infused ales (mango, guava), and a couple chocolate stouts (peanut butter, kerplunk). Their boldest creations include a 12% abv "Cosmic Monster" Belgian Quad (delicious!) and "Planet Bean Coffee Stout" (rich and robust). For the autumn season, I definitely recommend the new "Braaaaiiins" Pumpkin Ale (nicely spiced).
