I was planning my next pint in the Springfield VA area and didn't want to venture closer to DC on a Saturday night and Mike's American came up as a possibility on Beermapping.com . The restaurant was only a couple of miles from my hotel so I gave the place a shot. Mike's is located in a standalone building that is fairly large. Parking is a problem but the restaurant has arranged for some parking across the street in a strip mall. The inside atmosphere is great and the food is top notch. However... this is not a beer bar by any stretch of the idea. They have 16 beers on tap which includes the usual Bud, Bud lite etc. They do have 3 of their own beers on tap but they do not brew their own beer on site. The waitress said that she thought that Dominion was the brewer or since this restaurant is part of the same franchise as Sweetwater the beer might be from there. I had the Great American Pale Ale and the Mike's American Lager, both where OK but fairly nondescript. The only dark beer they had was Guinness... Mike's American Grill is a great place for food and atmosphere, just don't go expecting great beer.
