I was drawn in to the Brown Lantern on this visit to Anacortes by their All-you-can-eat Gumbo Special. I hadn't been in for at least 5 years as I usually have a limited amount of beer time while in town and hit the Rockfish just down the street. A good friend of mine from Yakima had told me recently that the Brown Lantern was his favorite watering hole in Anacortes so I made it a point to stop by. I was mildly surprised, as they had an excellent selection of taps, with many beers I had never tasted before. The Gospel IPA from the Skagit River Brewery was excellent and a great choice to accompany the Gumbo. The Gumbo was spicy, just hot enough that I did not need to add anything else to kick it up. It was chock full of veggies, rice and chicken. The only thing it lacked to be the best I had ever had was more shrimp and some oysters, but what do want for all-you-can-eat? I will definitely return the next time I am in town. There were many items on the menu I wanted to try, like their Seafood Poorboy (shrimp and oyster sandwich). The staff was very friendly, the service excellent, and there was a good crowd for a Tuesday afternoon, lots of locals.
