A beer bar with a great attitude. They claim to be the only bar in Galway that refuses to serve Guinness. Over 20 taps and over 100 bottles. Owned by craft brewer Galway Bay Brewing. Knowledgeable staff; board games; comfy seating. One of the taps was Left Hand Milk Stout, which is great, but not widely distributed in Ireland. Turns out that the owners are friends and somehow periodically trade kegs. A bunch of great restaurants within a couple of blocks. A must visit before or after dinner.

Only a stone's throw from The Bierhaus, The Salt House is Galway city's other beer specialist and they take their beer very serious here, in a marvellously fun way.

The macrocrap is kept to an absolute minimum and the taps lean heavily towards the Irish craft side, with beers from The Porterhouse, Galway Hooker and White Gypsy available on my visit. There's a rotating guest beer tap and a cask beer engine. Behind the bar, the bottled selection -- representing Irish and international beers -- is exhaustive and yells quality.

The pub itself is small without being poky and has a real fire for extra cosiness. A big screen is provided for sports and wi-fi is complementary. They don't do food, but can recommend local outlets where you can pick up something tasty and bring it back to the pub with you.

When I visited The Salt House was only just starting out but has gone from nought to the best pub in Galway instantly. Unmissable.
