The Mekong Restaurant is in Richmond’s West End and a part of a strip mall. The restaurant is spacious and the bar area is large as well. This restaurant has won the title of one of the best beer bars in America. I would subtitle the Mekong as a great Belgian beer bar. They have a great array of Belgian, European and American beers on tap. On the day that I was there they had selections from Durvel, Bosteels, Dupont and Boon. They also have a great selection of barrel aged beers. For the non beer lover there are wines on tap and ciders and even a South African mead – Iqhiliki. The food is solid Vietnamese fare. The server that we got was not overly helpful but it seemed that if one sat in the bar area the service was much better. The Mekong is definitely worth a stop if you are on a beer tour of Richmond or just want some good pho.
