A new bright light in the slightly down-at-heel seaside resort of Salthill, Oslo is home to the one-man Bay Brewery.

The pub itself is a generic one-storey superpub, stretching back along a long bar to tables with benches at the rear and a small mezzanine with leather couches leading to the tiny brewery itself. The décor is modern with a definite urban chill vibe to it.

The beer selection is first rate, crammed with imports from the UK, Belgium and the US. Most of the usuals are on tap, and to begin with they have two house beers, pumped directly from the brewhouse to your glass. They're a slightly ropey lager and a decent but unexciting red ale, and I'd say both recipes are still being improved upon.

Perhaps not somewhere the visitor to Galway should be making a beeline for -- not when there are such great pubs in the city -- but if a stroll around Galway Bay leads you here it's great to have the option of stopping for some genuine Irish beer before heading on your way.
