I stopped in here after visiting Dogfish Head, and there was a stark difference between the two breweries. While Dogfish creates big, bold beers, 16 Mile goes for sessionable beers. I went for a sampler of 6 beers, and since there were 11 on the menu I got to skip the lightest beers like the golden ale, for instance.

None of the beers I had elicited strong feelings from me, with one notable exception. Most were drinkable, but nothing spectacular. The other beer was named "Friday's Failed Experiment" and was an attempt at a steak beer. It sucked. I'd suggest that, in the future, they dispose of failed experiments instead of selling them to customers.

They're in the middle of nowhere, with limited hours. No food, but great beer. They sell pints, 6 packs and kegs – or give away (as in free) small samples in plastic cups. We tried all 5 taps. They were all good, clean beers with no obvious flaws. The dark pale ale had an interesting coffee finish, but the IPA was the favorite of our group of 4. It got crowded around 11:30 with people coming in from as far as Pennsylvania. Well worth the visit.

This very small brewery is up and growing fast. I toured their facility in March 2011, when there was only a single warehouse for brewing and offices. The brewers were happy to chat and share a taste of their fresh beer. I visited again in July 2012, and they had added an entire building with a spacious taproom with bar, several tables and a faux fireplace. They have a 15-chair lacquered wooden bar with 7 house draft beers. The thing to understand about 16 Mile is that their original goal was to produce consistent, drinkable, moderate beers. They did not strive to creative heavy or super-hoppy beers, but just recently have started to experiment with flavorful recipes. But to be clear, their target consumer is not the Dogfish Head IPA drinker. Consequently their beers are not really for me, but they have a loyal and growing following. Their original aluminum bottles are an eye-catcher, and 16 Mile has also starting bottling in glass. In the past two years, their offering has doubled and now consists of Amber Sun, Blues Golden, Old Court, Inlet IPA, Responders Ale and Harvest Brown Ale. To me their core beers are just average, but as of 2014 their offering has expanded impressively.
