P.O.P.E is located a couple blocks from Philly's original cheesesteak hotspots (Geno's & Pat's). In addition to street parking, there is a grocery store parking lot across the street. Enter, and there is a wrapping 16-stool wooden bar, and a small collection of beer cans and foreign currency overhead. Dark yellow, brown and black decor, with walls of brick and stone create a gothic atmosphere. A couple windows near the bar allow sunset backlight to pour into this otherwise dark venue. Two compact dining rooms are separated by a brick archway. POPE has about 80 beers in bottles, plus 15 on tap, with emphasis on very robust, high abv craft brews. Chalkboards with the tap list are kept up to date, and show the size and glassware for the pour. With such an excellent selection, it's a shame they don't offer sampler flights. Take your time, relax, and enjoy a couple nice beers.
