*** CLOSED *** Fermentation Trap closed February 2014, and its in-house brewery, Beer Hound, relocated to a new larger location in Culpeper.

Fermentation Trap is a homebrew and vintners supply shop, located in a short, pale brick strip mall. There is an upper level of shops in the front and a lower level around back. Large windows let you see inside the store, where they have all of the supplies and ingredients that a homebrewer would need. They have bins of different grains on the right, brewing equipment on the left, and a refrigerator with hops and yeast. Further back on the left is the small brewhouse which has electric heated stainless steel pots. The name of their in-house brewery is Beer Hound, and their logo is a simple cartoon dog stick figure carrying a firkin on its back. All of the beers are named after famous or fictitious dogs, and there are pictures of these hanging on the wall. They have a six-chair wooden tasting bar in the back of the store, where they have 5 brews on tap which you can get by sampler glass or growler. Most of their beers are just average and easy drinking, but I was especially impressed by their heavier 8.6% abv Kujo Imperial IPA. They do not have food, but they do offer pretzels as a snack. The employees are super friendly, very informative, and happy to describe their beers. This is a nice little store and I appreciate what they're doing to promote the art of brewing.
