I walked in and was immediately greeted by the hostess, but decided to go sit at the bar. The place has a nice atmosphere, old building, nicely renovated but keeping it's "old" feel. The bartender was very knowledgeable and offered to help me with my beer selections. I suggested a sampler but he suggested free samples! I ordered the American Pale Ale, which I found to be much more like an IPA. I had a taste of the Alt beer which I found very pleasing. Next I had the IPA which I though was a bit less hoppy that the APA but a touch more bitter. The food was standard pub fare, nothing special but nothing bad. I had the wings and salad, the guys next to me seemed to really enjoy the buffalo burgers. I finished out the night with the Bourbon Barrel Stout which i though was very good! A good dose of chocolate flavor which balanced well with the oak flavor and just a hint of bourbon. I'll go back here again

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Kramerbooks and Afterwords Cafe and Grill

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Wed, 08 Feb 2012 19:27:08 EST

Overall Score: 88.3
Selection: 4.5 | Service: 3.75 | Atmosphere: 5 | Food: 4.75

Reviewer: campncookie

This place is a combination book store and restaurant. It might sound a little strange but it works. The beer list might not be huge but its all good. No bud here. The food is very good, but the prices are a bit high and the portions small. If you're like me and prefer the bar, walk though the restaurant to the back, past the bar is the book store. Relax, read, eat and enjoy the beer

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Bier Baron

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Tue, 29 Mar 2011 12:38:02 EDT

Overall Score: 100.0
Selection: 5 | Service: 5 | Atmosphere: 5 | Food: 4.0

Reviewer: campncookie

This used to be called Brickskellers, so look for reviews on them to find more info.

This was my second time here, and the first time I've eaten hear. The beer menu is HUGE, and it's broken down by styles. If you can't find a beer you like here, it doesn't exist. The staff seems beer knowledgeable. There were about 50 beers on tap and pages and pages of beers in bottles. The even have Bud and Miller so you can bring your friends who are not beer geeks.

The food was good, not fabulous, but good. The staff was very helpful picking a menu selection. I'd go back there again.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Green Dragon Tavern, The

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Fri, 14 Jan 2011 13:58:02 EST

Overall Score: 86.7
Selection: 3 | Service: 5 | Atmosphere: 5 | Food: N/A

Reviewer: campncookie

A great pub with a very nice atmosphere, and ALOT of history. However, I wouldn't exactly call it a "beer bar"; at least in the sense that all the bars in the neighborhood have the same beers on tap. The usual major beer brands, plus Sam Adams of course, and Harpoon (brewed in Boston). If your going here you can really have a good time bar hopping, there's about 5 bars right on the same block, including Bell in Hand, Union Oyster House, Paddy O's, and a block away is Quincy Market with the Durgin Park, which by the way has a good selection of craft beers.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Black Rose, The

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Fri, 14 Jan 2011 13:27:52 EST

Overall Score: 76.7
Selection: 3 | Service: 4 | Atmosphere: 4.5 | Food: N/A

Reviewer: campncookie

I stopped in here while staying at a hotel near by. It's a great Irish Pub, but not really allot different than all the dozens of other Irish pubs within a few block radius of here. All the pubs in the area have basically the same beers; and with the exception of Harpoon, none are craft beers. So I'm not sure why this is the only one in the area on this site (with the exception of the Green Dragon).

Having said all that, it's a great atmosphere, and live music every night.I didn't try the food here, but the patrons I chatted with all had good things to say.

When I go back to Boston, I'd probably stop in here again, and maybe try the food, but I wouldn't go out of my way since there are so many good bars in the area.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Grand Cru

Beer Store
Date and time reviewed: Sat, 20 Nov 2010 13:56:53 EST

Overall Score: 96.7
Selection: 5 | Service: 5 | Atmosphere: 4.5 | Food: N/A

Reviewer: campncookie

This is NOT your typical beer store, because they actually have a tavern license, so you can sit and enjoy your beer or take some home.
There are always five beers on tap and they rotate regularly. And the artisan cheeses are EXCELLENT. So, go there for a plate of cheese and crackers (or venison peperoni) and you're favorite brew, then mix and match a six pack before you go. Or do like I do and stop in for a beer and appetizer before heading to the Terrapin Restaurant for one of their beer tasting dinners.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Jaxon's Restaurant and Brewing Co - Remcon

Brewpub
Date and time reviewed: Sat, 26 Jun 2010 9:15:32 EDT

Overall Score: 80.0
Selection: 4 | Service: 4 | Atmosphere: 4 | Food: 4.0

Reviewer: campncookie

I stopped in late Monday evening since I was staying at a hotel within walking distance. The salad I had for dinner was a bit wilted, not that good, but I attribute that to it being Monday night.

They have 6 beers on the list but one was not available in this location (there is another location near the airport). I had the Lager, Seasonal, Brown Ale and IPA. The beers were all good, not outstanding, but good none the less. The seasonal lager was probably the best, a German Dark Lager style. The IPA was also very good.

Plenty of seating and a nice atmosphere.

I went back on Thursday night and had the pork sandwich which was very good (made up for Mondays salad). Make sure if you order this to get extra napkins... it's big and it's messy, just the was I like it!!

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Blackstone Restaurant and Brewery

Brewpub
Date and time reviewed: Wed, 24 Mar 2010 17:10:55 EDT

Overall Score: 96.7
Selection: 4.75 | Service: 5 | Atmosphere: 4.75 | Food: 4.75

Reviewer: campncookie

I traveled to Nashville on business and upon arriving looked for a brewpub for dinner. The previous reviews are spot on. I enjoyed all the brews here, especially the Porter. I wasn't too hungry so I just had the Caesar salad which was exactly what I expected, just good, not spectacular. The next day while visiting my customer, they took me back for lunch. I had a wonderful burger while the other two had (and raved about) the fish and chips. After they described their meal I will order that the next time I go back. So far it's the best brewpub in Nashville I've been

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Skytop Steakhouse and Brewing Co.

Brewpub
Date and time reviewed: Thu, 21 Jan 2010 9:49:11 EST

Overall Score: 86.7
Selection: 3.75 | Service: 4.5 | Atmosphere: 4.75 | Food: 2.75

Reviewer: campncookie

(1/4/13) NOTE: This location is no longer brewing on premises. But they do have a decent tap lineup

This is an upscale restaurant with an appropriately (high) priced menu.

While the fresh brewed craft beers are normally the attraction at a brew pub, here the main attraction is the food; and the view.

Set atop a cliff overlooking the city of Kingston, this restaurant offers spectacular views from the dinning room. The high ceilings and modern decor make for a very pleasant atmosphere. Unfortunately this is about where the good part ends.

The beers, while all ok, are not really worth going out of your way for. And the last two times I was there, the food did not meet our expectations. And for the price we paid, it was an overall disappointment.

We've been here several times, and at first we really liked it, but it seems to have gone downhill as of late.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Hyde Park Brewing Company

Brewpub
Date and time reviewed: Thu, 21 Jan 2010 9:33:33 EST

Overall Score: 93.3
Selection: 4.5 | Service: 4.75 | Atmosphere: 4.75 | Food: 3.0

Reviewer: campncookie

The first thing you notice when entering the Hyde Park Brewing Co. is the brew house though the glass on your right, and the long bar on the left. The place had a comfortable appeal right off the bat.

But don't bother waiting for a table, because you don't come here for the food. Grab a seat at the bar and check out the beer lists.

I've had several of the brews here and they are all very good. But the food is not the best. I've been disappointed on more than one occasion.

There is plenty of free parking in the large lot surrounding the building, which is well located right across from the FDR home and library.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com
