It has a decent tap list with a few pretty good beers on tap and plenty of BMC for that crowd too, so it's a place you can feel comfortable taking any crowd. Not the best list I've ever seen and nothing too crazy, but better than most places.

The service was good and the food pretty good. There's plenty of parking outside as well.

If you're passing by, it's worth a stop but I wouldn't drive out of my way to go there.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Long Valley Pub and Brewery

Brewpub
Date and time reviewed: Wed, 18 Jul 2012 13:51:53 EDT

Overall Score: 75.0
Selection: 3.5 | Service: 3.75 | Atmosphere: 4 | Food: 3.0

Reviewer: SiB57

A good but not outstanding brewpub offering a good if safe selection of beers. Nothing was stellar, but nothing was bad either. I would stop by again if I was in the area for the beer but I wouldn't make a special trip. I had the sampler so I got to try everything they had on tap. The Stout was my favorite of what was on tap that day.

The building is very cool and has a comfortable old-building feel to it. We were here during off-peak times so I don't know if they get crowded or not.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Varga Bar

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Sun, 05 Feb 2012 11:59:08 EST

Overall Score: 91.7
Selection: 4.75 | Service: 4.5 | Atmosphere: 4.5 | Food: N/A

Reviewer: SiB57

Excellent beer selection! Over 20 taps, good bottle and can list, well broken down on the menu to find a beer you're looking for, and 2 hand pumps with great beer on them as well.

It's a smallish bar, but very nice. Service was very good, quick to get you a pint!

Also had a nice outdoor area and had heaters so even in the middle of winter you could sit outside and not freeze.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Farmer's Cabinet, The

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Sun, 05 Feb 2012 11:54:43 EST

Overall Score: 90.0
Selection: 4.5 | Service: 4.5 | Atmosphere: 4.5 | Food: N/A

Reviewer: SiB57

A very cool bar! You walk in and it's really dark and has a cool speakeasy vibe to it. A great beer selection of craft Eurpoean beers plus some specially contracted beers of their own.

Lots of bartenders and they were knowledgable about the beer, able to help people with a selection since most of their beers aren't well known (and a few of the people I was with weren't big beer drinkers but they all found something!)

It's really dark, though, so it was hard to read the menu. They did have a printed menu which was easier to read, which was nice.

Beer is very expensive. Probably inline with what it needs to be for this quality imported beer, but just a heads up it won't be a cheap night here.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Moriarty's Pub

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Sun, 05 Feb 2012 11:18:27 EST

Overall Score: 46.7
Selection: 2 | Service: 2 | Atmosphere: 3 | Food: 4.0

Reviewer: SiB57

I was dissapointed with this place. The food was okay, but I didn't really go there for the beer.

They claim to have "50" taps, but there's now way. At most, it's 50 different tap lines running from 10 or so kegs (they do have 3 or 4 different bars, so I guess this is possible.)

We were on the 2nd floor since we went there for dinner too with a group of people. They had a very standard tap list there, and some of the stuff that wasn't BMC was out (Fransiskaner, etc.) Even worse, the servers "weren't allowed" to go to the different floors to get beer, they were only allowed to serve the beer that was on the floor they were on. I didn't check out the 3rd floor bar, but the 1st had a slightly better tap list, at least including some locals from Yards and stuff.

I wouldn't recommend this location, there are a lot of better bars in Philly to visit.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Fibber McGees

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Mon, 22 Aug 2011 19:46:46 EDT

Overall Score: 76.7
Selection: 2.5 | Service: 4.5 | Atmosphere: 4.5 | Food: 4.75

Reviewer: SiB57

Stopped in for lunch one day during our vacation at Sunset Beach. It's a small little bar with a few tables but it was very nice inside.

Food was excellent! Just sandwiches, but they were all very tasty.

As for beer, it leaves a bit to be desired. BMC taps, and two craft beer taps (two I can't get at home, so that was good, at least!) I'd wish for more, but still a nice surprise to have this right across the bridge.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Ott's Bottle Stop

Beer Store
Date and time reviewed: Tue, 12 Jul 2011 9:22:16 EDT

Overall Score: 90.0
Selection: 4.5 | Service: 4.75 | Atmosphere: 4.25 | Food: N/A

Reviewer: SiB57

Ott's took over this location a few years ago and have been making it better and better since. At one time I'm not sure you could get anything more exotic than a Corona or a Heiniken in the liquor store, but now they have a decent selection of craft beer and imports. The store itself is on the smaller side and just doesn't have the room for massive amounts of beer like some of the bigger stores in the area, but what they have is good.

But the best part of the new Ott's is the growling filling station. 9 taps of constantly rotating stock, with all kinds of good beer on tap. I've gotten Six Point, New Holland, Firestone Walker, and others from the growler filling station all for very reasonable prices. They sell Ott's logo growlers, but I think they'll even fill other growlers if you already have them. Well worth the stop with an empty growler to get a fill-up!

Service is excellent, more that willing to let you sample what you're going to get a growler of and helping you with picking out a beer as well.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Manny Brown's - South Street

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Mon, 11 Jul 2011 9:56:51 EDT

Overall Score: 85.0
Selection: 4.5 | Service: 4.25 | Atmosphere: 4 | Food: N/A

Reviewer: SiB57

Stopped in for a quick beer to check out the bar. Great beer selection lots of breweries, styles, and beers to choose from. The printed beer menu was up-to-date which is surprisingly rare for beer bars anymore. They had on tap everything that they said they did, which was nice.

Service was good, I ordered and received my beer quickly. It was a Sunday afternoon, so it was not crowded at all, so I don't know how they are when it's more crowded.

It's a good place to stop in for a beer or two if you're walking South Street.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Brauhaus Schmitz

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Mon, 11 Jul 2011 9:50:27 EDT

Overall Score: 80.0
Selection: 4.25 | Service: 3.5 | Atmosphere: 4.25 | Food: 4.75

Reviewer: SiB57

A true German style Beer-Hall on South Street in Philly. Great beers on tap, lots of styles mostly German (but there are a few non-German beers too.) They had a true German Kolsch on tap, as well as a Granitbock, both interesting styles I haven't seen at many places. Lots of other choices on tap and a decent bottle list too.

Food was very good, although it was a bit pricey. I had the house specialty bratwurst, which I recommend to anyone who likes to eat meat off a wooden cutting board (very traditional, I I loved that touch.)

We were there for a lunch on a Sunday, so I have to assume that's a pretty dead time. The bar was pretty full with people watching the soccer game, but there was plenty of seating available. I can see that this place could get very crowded and very loud at certain times.

My only knock is that service was a bit slow.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com

Hulmeville Inn

Beer Bar
Date and time reviewed: Mon, 11 Jul 2011 9:33:51 EDT

Overall Score: 85.0
Selection: 4.75 | Service: 4 | Atmosphere: 4 | Food: N/A

Reviewer: SiB57

The Hulmeville Inn is a terrific beer bar with a great selection. It's home to the ALEiens Home brew club and also the home bar and sponsor of the 2010 and 2011 Philly Beer Geek winners.

Selection was great, there were several beers that I would've had. I only had time for one, so I went with the Founders Breakfast Stout which was a good call.

I didn't get a chance to speak with the bartenders much, they were setting up for a BBQ that afternoon, but in the little bit that I interacted with them, it appeared that they knew their stuff and could help out with finding something you'd like.

I didn't try any of the food, so I can't comment on it, but they did have a small menu of mostly bar-food.

Link to this Review at beermapping.com
