Bookmarking Locations
This is a simple pictorial explaining how you can be an online wizard and bookmark locations on a beermapping map.
First, you need to find a place to bookmark. I chose one of my old stomping grounds in North Carolina (who happened to have just won a GABF award for their IPA!). The Carolina Brewery is my chosen point to bookmark.

When you’ve selected your location from either the list on the right or directly from the map, you simply have to click the “bookmarking options” link in the locations tab (like in the above picture). After clicking that link you should see a pop-up window (If you have a pop-up blocker you may have to disable it. There will never be any pop-up ads on beermapping.com). The pop-up should contain information similar to the following picture.

In the picture you can see that there are links and a text field. The text field contains a short url that will link you directly to the location on the map that you selected. You can copy that url out of the text field and pass it on to friends, or paste it in forums (you can not however, copy the url and then paste it in an envelope and mail it to someone, because this is the internet not grandma’s pen pal club!).
At the current moment, I have added some “social bookmarking” links. Basically these are services that allow you to save bookmarks that will be accessable for you at any computer with an internet connection. Usually these services do require a registration, but it’s usually free and simple to set up.
For this example I chose to use Furl.net. As you can see from the image above I clicked the little orange ‘f’.
After selecting to “furl” the bookmark I am given the following screen (I was already logged in to furl, but you may have to go through that step if you’re not logged in already).

I filled in the title of the link (I just added the “Carolina Brewery” part at the end, the rest is already filled in), I gave it a rating and a topic. The rating and topic are both optional on Furl.
Success!

The furl success will shortly disappear into nothing, leaving us with the bookmarking options again. Now we can go about our merry way knowing that we have our location safely saved in our furl account.
When next I log into my furl account, it will look like the following image.

From this area you can edit or delete bookmarks.
The following image shows what my links look like to the public. Feel free to click on the image to actually see my “public” page on furl.net. As long as I remember my furl username I can use it to view my public links from any computer without actually logging into my furl account (you can also mark links as “private” if you don’t want them to be viewable to the public). The url standard is: furl.net/members/beerinator (and you would obviously substitute beerinator for your username!).
Now get out there and bookmark some locations!
