The Beer Mapping Project

Beer Related Quick Highlight Lookups

These should work with multiple browsers.

What is this page?

This page is set up to give beer loving internet users the capability to quickly search breweries and brewpubs through your choice of several online beer databases. The way they work is by highlighting a word on an internet site (preferably a brewery name) and clicking a toolbar button to quickly search through your choice of database. Alternatively, you can click the button without highlighting anything, and it will provide you with a field to enter your brewery search name. Follow the easy instructions and we guarantee that it might possibly work, maybe... hopefully for you.

Note: beeradvocate.com changes their search functions frequently (at least twice since this page was created). Because of this, the beeradvocate quick lookup does not work.

Instructions:

Now that you have a bookmark toolbar button for your favorite beer site, all you have to do is highlight a word on any webpage (preferably one that you know is the beginning of the name of a brewery) and click the button. This will cause whatever you have highlighted to be used in a search through the beer site of your choosing. Try it with the following words. Highlight one and click the button that you dragged to your toolbar folder.

Stone
Rogue
Goose

Browser Specifics:

IE users will not be able to drag and drop these links. You will have to right click > add to Favorites > save to 'links' folder. If you are using IE and you can't see a button appear, then your links folder toolbar is either disabled or it is moved such that you can not see the links (usually it is squeezed to the right of your 'Go' button). In this case, right click your toolbar, make sure there is a checkmark beside 'Links', and uncheck 'Lock the Toolbars'. Now you can drag your 'Links' down below your address toolbar so you will have space for buttons.

Firefox users should be able to automatically drag and drop the links to your bookmarks toolbar. If you have disabled this toolbar, it's simple to bring it back. Right click on the toolbars and make sure there is a checkmark beside 'Bookmarks Toolbar'.

Opera users can use either set of links. You should right click the link > Bookmark Link > Details > Check 'Show on personal bar'. As long as your personal bar is active (right click toolbar to activate it if it is disabled) you should be able to see and use the highlight lookup button.
